From 2 July until 28 August 2016.
A new exhibition focusing on artists’ responses to the sea will be shown at Duff House this summer.
All works on show will be by members of the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.
The exhibition will include three pieces from the Royal Scottish Academy collections: ‘Cod requiem’ a film by Will Maclean and Andy Rice: ‘Harbour Window’ by Silvia Wishart, and ‘Morning Harbour’ by Ian Fleming. Other works have been sourced direct from the artists or from private collections and include work from Frances Walker, Joyce W Cairns, Arthur Watson, Barbara Rae, Ian MacKenzie Smith, William Littlejohn and John Bellamy. Some works will be for sale.
COAST Arts Festival contacted the RSA earlier this year in the hope that an exhibition might be developed to be shown in Duff House during the 2016 Festival. When it was decided that COAST would not take place this year, the Committee took the decision to go forward with the SEA show regardless, in collaboration with Historic Environment Scotland and the RSA.
Colin Greenslade, Director of the Royal Scottish Academy, is curating the show. Colin is himself from the North East, having grown up in Elgin and studied at Gray’s School of Art. He is keen to enhance opportunities for local communities to experience a full range of high quality art and has used his considerable expertise and knowledge to bring us this exhibition.
Hazel Weeks, Secretary of COAST Arts Festival said “We are delighted to bring this show to Duff House this summer for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors alike. We would like to thank The Royal Scottish Academy and Duff House, Historic Environment Scotland for their enthusiasm, commitment and co-operation in making this happen. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people in the North East to view work by these renowned artists. We are sure that this exhibition will be enjoyed and valued by all who see it.”
SEA will be on show at Duff House, Banff AB45 3SX from 2 July until 28 August 2016.
